The Blacker the Berry...
have you ever heard someone say, "You're cute for a dark skinned girl...!?” Please, anyone, tell me what that means! Growing up I was teased about my skin complexion; I would hear remarks like, "girl you black!" or would be called blacky! I mean this would happen almost everyday. Because of that I grew up disliking my skin color and this quickly caused me to think I was ugly! who knew such simple words could alter the way I thought about myself! My defense quickly became the famous statement, "the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice...!” I'm telling you, if no one else embraced that phrase I DID!
I was well into my college years before I really learned to love me and my beautiful dark skin! The journey to loving myself AND my dark skin was not an easy or short journey! The number one thing you have to do to begin loving yourself is to really get an understanding of who you are as an individual! fully embrace those quirks that make you YOU!
I want to inspire all the dark skinned beauties out there to love you! Having a relationship with Christ is an essential part of rebuilding self esteem and confidence or should I say GODfidence! God has blessed you with such beauty and strength… You are gorgeous and wonderfully made by a creator that see you as the apple of his eyes! Be encouraged my love and embrace that dark, smooth, melanated skin!
